SIMCOCK, WALKER, SWALLOW, NUSSBAUM
on tour for the first time
On May 19th as Gwilym finds out if he is to be "Musician of the Year" for a second time around at the All Party Parliamentary Jazz Awards, he will be embarking on a new adventure with the brilliant British guitarist Mike Walker and two stars of the American jazz scene bassist Steve Swallow and drummer Adam Nussbaum.

Mike WalkerThe partnership of the four musicians was almost inevitable at some point. Mike and Gwilym had met several times during Gwilym's time in Manchester but had never got round to playing together. Mike recently wrote his project "Ropes" which was premiered in 2008 specifically with Adam Nussbaum in mind.Gwilym had arranged Steve Swallow's music for Norma Winstone in a project a few years back and Steve had much admired the result.  In 2008 Gwilym met Steve and Adam whilst they were in the UK touring with the Mike Gibbs 70th birthday Big Band.  And of course Steve and Adam have played together for years on a whole range of projects.
This brand new project is full of inspirational improvisational playing.
They will be performing new music written specially for the quartet by Gwilym and Mike and Steve.

The tour will start in the UK on May 21st at Turner Sims, Southampton, and then go on to the CBSO Centre Birmingham, The RA Centre Leicester and Ronnie Scott's in London before moving  to Europe.  In July there will be a return to the UK for a recording date with Basho Records with a week of activity culminating a headline concert at the Manchester Jazz Festival.

Mike Walker is regarded as one of Europe's most exciting guitarists and has worked with George Russell's the Creative jazz Orchestra, Vince Mendoza, Anthony Braxton, Bill Frisell, Tim Berne, and Mark-Anthony Turnage. Steve Swallow is regarded as the leading exponent of the bass guitar and his illustrious career spans decades of playing many of the great - Paul Motian, Lee Konitz, John Scofield, Carla Bley, Chris Potter and many others. Steve and his long-time friend and rhythm section partner Adam Nussbaum have worked on many projects together. Adam's work with Michael Brecker won a Grammy in 1988.
